striatula - great for dry sunny borders

£12.50

Pot Size : 1 litre

This is a wonderful succulent plant from the mountains of South Africa and Lesotho. The fleshy leaves are present all year, growing from striped stems that give the plant it's name (striatula). The numerous heads of yellow/orange flowers look like glossy Red Hot Poker flowers and cover the plant for many weeks in late spring and summer. It is one or the hardiest of all succulents and grows outdoors in full sun and well-drained gritty soil. A severe winter might kill off the top shoots but is usually re-grows from ground level. Alternatively it makes a great conservatory plant that can stand outside in summer and survive neglect! Grow it in full sun and well-drained soil, or in a pot (pots need to be in a cold greenhouse over winter).
