Nerine bowdenii 'Stefanie' - potted

Plant type: Bulb

'Stefanie' is a very pale shell-pink form of Nerine bowdenii with narrow petals - a robust autumn-flowering bulb that in the right conditions will thrive to produce an impressive display at a time of year when colour can be lacking. This is the hardiest of all the Nerines. The deeper-pink form originates on moist mountainside slopes in South Africa in regions where the summers are moist and the winters are dry so to get the best results plant in a well-drained sunny position and give extra water during the summer. The leaves will appear from late spring and 12 to 18" flowers stems will appear in mid to late-autumn, each bearing 7 or more faintly-scented flowers with narrow, recurved petals. Rich soil at the base of a sunny wall is ideal - don't forget to add grit under the bulbs and apply a thick mulch in winter. The long, narrow bulbs should be planted with tips showing through the surface of the soil.

Nerines are of South African origin.
