Eucomis Lotte - NEW FOR 2011 - potted

Plant type: Bulb

An excellent new comosa hybrid that has wonderful striped (striated) leaves. The flowers are cream with purple edges and stand perfectly erect on short stems, a good improvement on previous striated forms which seem to flop all too easily. I can really recommend this form - good both in pots or in the border.

Eucomis are of South African origin

Eucomis originate in Southern Africa and are commonly known as 'Pineapple Lilies' due to the obvious resemblance of the flower head and its crown of leafy bracts. The display lasts from summer to late autumn which is exceptional for a bulb. They make excellent container plants and are lovely in the border. Water and feed well whilst in growth, but keep the soil dry in winter. Eucomis are surprisingly hardy provided they have a winter mulch and good drainage. For full growing tips click on 'Cultivation Guides' on the menu on the left.
