A clump of evergreen Kniphofia rooperi makes an impressive statement in the late summer or autumn garden, it can flower as early as September but often as late as October or even November. In flower, the plants are up to 1.5m tall with long leaves and globose to oviod flower heads, rich orange-red with golden blooms at the base of the inflorescence. Grow this magnificent plant in well-drained soil but with access to moisture. Hardy but try to protect the leaves a little over winter, shelter from nearby plants will do.
